Lung Cancer Screening Program
The earlier you are diagnosed with lung cancer, the better your prognosis.
This is why we offer lung cancer screening to current and former smokers.
Your doctor can refer you to our program or you can call us directly. A screening coordinator will determine your eligibility and answer any questions you may have. To make an appointment, call 858-657-7777.
Who Should Be Screened for Lung Cancer?
Screenings are tests given before any symptoms develop. We recommend screening for those who fit these criteria:
- Between the ages of 50 and 80
- Without signs or symptoms of lung cancer
- Smoking history of at least 20 pack-years (A pack-year means smoking one pack per day for a year.)
- Current smoker or former smoker who quit smoking within the past 15 years
Many insurance plans, including Medicare, cover lung cancer screening for those who fit these criteria.
Lung Cancer Screening
Your cancer screening is based on the results of a low-dose CT scan of your lungs. The scan produces detailed cross-sectional images of your lungs, which a radiologist examines for signs of disease.
Same-Day Results
After your CT scan, you'll meet with a doctor that same day to review your results. Your doctor will provide recommendations that could include tobacco counseling, additional tests and scans, or referral to a lung cancer specialist.
